Tired of Unwanted Solicitations and Phone Calls? Here’s How to Put an End to Them
Are you tired of getting bombarded with unwanted solicitations in your mailbox and on your phone? You’re not alone. Many of our members have shared their frustration over endless mail offers and telemarketing calls. The good news? There are simple ways to cut down on the noise and take control of your personal information.
Whether it's persistent credit card offers or calls from companies you’ve never heard of, here are a few steps to help reduce the clutter:
Put a Stop to Unwanted Mail Offers
If your mailbox is overflowing with pre-approved credit or insurance offers, it’s time to take action. By opting out, you can stop these solicitations for five years—or even permanently. Just visit www.optoutprescreen.com or call 888-567-8688. It’s quick, easy, and will free up your mailbox for things that truly matter.
Block Unwanted Phone Calls
We all know the feeling of answering the phone, only to be met with a sales pitch. You can stop telemarketing calls by registering your phone numbers (both home and cell) at www.donotcall.gov or by calling 888-382-1222. Once your numbers are on the list, most telemarketers are required to stop calling you.
Understand the Exceptions
While opting out will significantly reduce unwanted offers, there are a few exceptions. Companies you have an existing relationship with—like those you’ve done business with recently—can still reach out. Additionally, certain non-profit organizations such as religious groups, political campaigns, or community-based non-profits are exempt. If you’d like to stop these calls or mailings, you’ll need to contact each organization directly.
Opt Out of Promotional Emails and Catalogs
Still getting too many catalogs or promotional emails? You can also use the Data & Marketing Association’s services at www.dmachoice.org to reduce the volume of marketing messages you receive.
